2009 Fundraising Walk and Cycle Event Programme

The 4th BDO Get BACk Challenge will take place over the weekend of 26th / 27th  June 2009. Once again the event will be based around the One. Two. 20 Challenge. This includes a 100km and 220 km cycle along with a 20km walk. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for Hospice Home Care programmes and support sports and activity programmes in areas of social and sporting disadvantage.
 
On Friday 26th June the 220km cycle will leave Ballyvaughan travelling along the coastal route before turning in the direction of Limerick. The following day the 220km group who will join the 100km cycle which leaves Limerick travelling via Ennis and Lahinch before finishing in Doonbeg.   
 
The 20km walk this year will depart from Doonbeg travelling on a scenic route before finishing back in Doonbeg to coincide with the conclusion of the cycle. This year we are pleased to welcome back cycling legend, three time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond to lead the cycle. The 2009 BDO Get BACk Challenge is endorsed by the Irish Sports Council based on the support of the funds raised for so many worthwhile projects organised by the Local Sports Partnership.

 

100km Cycle

Saturday 27th June – 11.30am


The 100km Cycle will depart from the Strand Hotel in Limerick travelling through

  • Ennis,
  • Lahinch,
  • Spanish Point
  • concluding in Doonbeg Golf Club

220km Cycle

Friday, 26th June

The first stage of the 220km cycle will take participants from Ballyvaughan in north Clare along a coastal route to

  • Doolin
  • Cliffs of Moher
  • Ennis
  • Finishing in Limerick 

The second leg of the 220km cycle will join the 100km cycle group travelling from Limerick to Doonbeg as part of the larger BDO Get BACk Challenge cycle.

20km Walk

Saturday 27th June – 2pm


This year the 20 Km walk takes a very scenic route leaving from Doonbeg Golf Resort at 2pm.  The route takes walkers towards White Strand beach and turns back along the coast before descending back towards Doonbeg.  The views are spectacular along the route taking in coast and mountains.  The vast majority of the route is on quiet country back roads.
